Klitos Ioannides

Klitos Ioannides was born in Moutoullas. From 1967 to 1974 he studied Philosophy, Religious Studies and Social Sciences in Paris. In 1973 he received his PhD from the University of Sorbonne.

He worked as a researcher and professor in Paris and Athens (1973-1976) and he has been a researcher at the Cyprus Research Centre from 1977 to 1999. Since 1988 he has been scientific collaborator at the Holy Monastery of Kykkos. From 2002 to 2013, he has been professor of Philosophy at the Frederick University, Nicosia and professor of Philosophy and Aesthetics at the Cyprus Technological University (TEPAK).

Apart from his work in the fields of Religious Studies, Philosophy and the History of modern Cypriot Literature, he has systematically concerned himself with scientific research, the evangelic, patristic and mystic word, poetry, the writing of essays and articles, criticism, translation, authorship and the presentation of thousands of radio and television programmes. Daily and weekly newspapers and journals of Cyprus, Greece and other countries have published hundreds of his texts and articles. Poetry and other writings by him have been translated into French, English, Russian, Italian, German, Serbian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Spanish, Slovenian, Romanian, Estonian and Portuguese. He consistently harvested Oral History with several publications, as well as by the creation of historic records.

He has been, among other things, a founding member of the Cyprus Centre of the International Association of Writers (PEN), Secretary, Vice President and President. He is also, since its establishment, member of the Board of the Cyprus Philosophical Society (currently President), member of the Board of the Centre of Studies of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos, member of the Board of the Cyprus Centre of International Theatre Institute, member of the Board of the Cyprus Association of Arts and Communication, President of the Theater “ENA”, corresponding member of the Hellenic Philosophical Society and a member of the Society of Authors of Greece. He is also the President of the National Society of Greek Writers of Cyprus and has been a member of the Union of Cypriot writers. He has represented Cyprus at many Hellenic and international philosophical, theological, and literary congresses.
